Cutting is very addictive, almost like a drug. The more students cut, the more they engage in it. Speaking from former experience, I can honestly say the road to rehab isn’t easy.
The question everyone asks is why do students cut school and classes? Students cut classes because they don’t want to be in class dong work. Instead, students would rather be anywhere doing anything they consider “fun.”
“Fun” activities include hanging out with their friends, getting food or going to the mall. Some students cut to get away from the homework, classwork and the test. “Cutting is addictive because you get away from the school work and you have fun and you have no work to worry about,” stated Gaitree Persaud.
Students then become addicted to cutting and they continue to skip classes and sometimes school. This leads to the drop in grades and students getting left behind.
When students who cut start going to class and doing their work, the day seems to take forever and never seems to finish. “If you cut all the time and you stay all day in school, the day seems to take forever,” stated Wazir Mohamed, a retired cutter.
Cutting is addictive and it affects your grades. If students want to do well in school they need to stop cutting and go to class. The road to rehab isn’t easy but the outcome is worth the trip.

Tennis
Jamaica High School's tennis team had a stunning record of 9-1 last season, and made it all the way to the championships but came up short. They were coached by Susan Sutera, a well known coach and gym teacher at Jamaica High School. With a new season starting, Jamaica's tennis team is back with a vengeance to take it all this year.
Jamaica was 4 points away from being crowned champions, something Jamaica last saw in the 2002-03 season. Jamaica, who lost in the championship to Leon M Goldstein HS for Science by a score of 4-1, is back to take another shot at the championship.
As the 2008 season for tennis starts, "the plans for the beaver's tennis team is to make the playoffs, and win the championship" stated Philipnary Thuyamany, a returning player who played in the championship of last season for Jamaica.
They plan to make it to the championships by practicing harder, getting more experienced, and playing as a team.
Jamaica's tennis team is practicing for their new season to make this season one win better than they did last year, and that one game is to win the championship. The team is hungry and they want to take it all after coming up a little short last year.
