What is breast cancer exactly though? Breast cancer is a malignant tumor in the breast region of a woman's body. The effects of breast cancer can be damaging to a woman's health and even fatal.
"It is affecting many more women, where many more women are being diagnosed with Breast Cancer," said Ms. Cheroquit, a counselor at Jamaica High School.
Even though Breast Cancer is associated with women most of the time, men can also receive breast cancer too.
So if both genders can
get it then, why pink?"Pink is usually associated with women," Ms. Cheroquit added.
When you think breast cancer, you don't think sports, do you?
February 13, 2008 marked the twenty second anniversary for the recognition of women in mainstream sports. this is an opportunity for women to show that they too are athletes not only men.it is also an opportunity for all females to support female athletes.
This is a day where women stand up and show that they are athletes and this influences other women and make them play sports. when asked about the significance of the day Ms. Sutera stated that "this is an opportunity to showcase girls who play sports and take a backseat to boys."
Girl sports is not as recognized like the boys sports. this day is a day where the women athletes let everyone know that they play sports and not only men can play sports and be great at it. this day also lets women know that there are sports out there that they can participate in.
When asked what this day signified for Ms. Sutera the said " i am always honored to be involved in sports because of the struggle she went through because of the lack of programs available for her." she is very happy to coordinate programs for female athletes and she stated that " it is a lot of work but it is worth the appreciation.
